IN CHARACTER
Name: The Doctor
Canon: Doctor Who
Canon Point: After the events of the 50th Anniversary special before The End of Time.
Age: He is in his mid to late 900's but physically looks late 30s or early 40s.

History: Wiki history

Personality: Depending on the circumstances under which he meets someone, he can either be short and curt with them or overly friendly and enthusiastic. He hardly bothers to hide most of his moods; if he is frustrated over something, it generally shows, and he can be extremely rude, blunt, or tactless without realizing it. If someone points this out for him, he will most likely apologize, unless his rudeness was intentional.

This incarnation of the Doctor is particularly excitable and easily amused. Practically anything will get a reaction out of him, from a funny-sounding word to an entirely new civilization, and he'll either be struck dumb for a moment or prattle on about it until he's said all he can think of. Because of this, he can seem extremely absentminded, as he can be in the most serious of situations and still spastically go off on an irrelevant tangent. And, above all else, he's a huge fan of human activity (for instance, asking permission to hug a stranger studying a black hole), inadvertently treating them like Sea-Monkeys or an ant farm.

If something upsets or angers him, he makes it known. He is practically bound to his code of ethics, becoming easily irritated at the slightest transgression -- even the sight of a gun sometimes sets him off. He has set himself firmly against killing or violence of any sort, which has stemmed from a combination of the influence of his companions and residual guilt from his role in the Last Great Time War (a never-let-anyone-die-on-his-watch-again sort of thing). Unfortunately, despite this, he tends to drag trouble with him wherever he goes, often causing harm or death to come to everyone around him.

An aspect of his personality that he does attempt to cover up for is his chronic loneliness and occasional self-pity; he has several close friends who would drop everything for him, but he always returns to living alone in the TARDIS for one reason or another. He expresses a fear of loss and attachment -- the fact that most of his companions have such short lifespans in comparison to his own makes him fearful of committing to them in any form, as he explains to Rose after their meeting with Sarah Jane Smith. When confronted about his lack of company, he continuously denies actually needing someone with him, emphasizing, "I'm fine; I'm always fine."

The Doctor relies heavily on his intellect and diplomacy, narrowly avoiding death several times by stalling, asking a thought-provoking question, or causing something very scientifically-complicated to go wrong. He can be very witty, saying hardly anything while still managing to get his point across, or he can ramble on about a single subject and still leave people in the dark without a clue as to what was said. And if all else fails and he doesn't have a clever way of making himself sound smart, he'll wing it, sometimes even making up terms to avoid saying something silly like "magic window".

However, there is also a darkness that resides deep within The Tenth Doctor which can be attributed to the aftermath of the Time War, the loss of Rose Tyler, his growing age and diminishing mercy. It doesn’t come out all that often but when it does he can lack any sort of mercy, be quick to anger, unpredictable, callous, and manipulative like when he encounters the Racknoss and kills the hatch-lings. He's so far gone in his anger and rage that he doesn't care to go on anymore until a ginger woman named Donna Noble calls out and stops him. Or when he declares himself to be the "Time Lord Victorious" after saving Adelaide Brooke from her fate and changing history. Reasoning that since all the Time Lords are dead and there is only him left that he alone should have the power to control time as he sees fit.

Abilities/Skills: Being of the Gallifreyan species and a Time Lord, the Doctor has a long range of abilities and powers including regeneration in which his body changes completely after death while still retaining all the memories of his past selves. This process causes a slight change in personality as well and can result in falling into a coma if something goes wrong but it doesn’t last all that long. However and if a body part is lost or cut off ( i.e. his hand or a leg, fingers, toes, etc) within the first fifteen hours of this process he has the ability to regrow it via the use of residual cellular energy.

He also has two hearts and his skin temperature is several degrees lower to that of a human. Blood type is non existent as he is a Gallifreyan. Their blood doesn’t smell at all like one would find on a normal human being and seeing as regeneration occurs it’s in a constant state of flux. It’s dark reddish almost orange in colour and can actually be transfused into a human without any serious mishaps in which the receiver would actually feel completely energized.

Their brain capacity is far superior to that of normal humans being telepathic and able to tell if other Time Lords are around or not, barring that they’ve of course haven’t turned themselves into a human and hidden. They’re able to tell if a human is telepathic or not and can use touch telepathy as a form of contact. They can also retain a large amount of information greater to that of a normal human however around every thousand years or so some memories are wiped out to make space for newer ones.

They only require about one to six hours of sleep every two days and can sometimes last on a decade of sleep for every hundred years or so. Rarely do they even dream. If still fresh from regeneration however more sleep is needed.

Also eyesight is sophisticated when compared to that of a humanoid being able to speed read at an almost superhuman level and enables them to have excellent vision at night. He can also shift his vision outside the normal visual spectrum.

As far as senses and smells once again he’s leap and bounds ahead of what’s considered normal for humans with being able to perform biochemical analysis of what they’ve eaten as well as identify blood type by just a taste.

If injured (not fatally which triggers regeneration) a Time Lord has the ability to go into a healing trance resulting in the injury (depending on what it is) healing in a time span of a day, such as burns, various diseases, and nonfatal bullet wounds. Broken bones take about four days to heal properly. Any form of extreme pain can trigger them to go into the trance as well in which they will appear dead to normal humans and their body temperature tends to drop below zero which causes frost at times to form on the body. If near the TARDIS during this process it increases the rate of the healing.

When it comes to illnesses and what they are susceptible to Time Lords are vulnerable in some ways to some Earth diseases such as the common cold, fevers, and influenza. They are more resistant to mercury poisoning than that of average humans. Aspirin however has been proven to be extremely toxic to them messing with their genetic structure which depending on the dangerous levels could prevent regeneration from even occurring. They also have a faster recovery rate to snap out of unconsciousness compared to those of the human species.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

The Doctor relies heavily on his intellect and diplomacy, narrowly avoiding death several times by stalling, asking a thought provoking question, or causing something very scientifically complicated to go wrong.
A weakness for the Doctor is that he tends to think of himself as being too clever and that sometimes gets him into trouble. For example when he mistakes Queen Elizabeth I for a Zygon. He believed he had caught her out as being a Zygon impersonating the Queen but his rouse backfired and he ended up committing himself to be engaged to marry her. And he sometimes overlooks the obvious or some little detail that could be important having companions point it out for him. An example of this would be when the Doctor was trying to locate Earth when it was stolen by the Daleks, Donna pointed out that when she was looking for him, one of the reports she read was about the bees disappearing. This allowed him to track the signal that certain alien bees migrating from Earth were able to emit.

Items: Brown pinstripe suit, trainers, sonic screwdriver.

SAMPLES
Network Sample: So then...is this thing working? It seems to be. I'd really give for a pen and a nice notebook right about now, this is so...impersonal.

Anyways, I'm the Doctor. It's a pleasure to meet you all...

But, either way, this place is brilliant. Very roomy...on the interesting front, there seem to be a lot of rooms on this ship. Bit of a big ship too. I hope they don’t call it the Titanic. Long story. My TARDIS seems to be missing though. Ah, the old girl is probably just hiding. If anyone sees a police box, blue in color, please point me in the right direction.

Until then, perhaps I'm just meant to stay for a while. In which case, I'd fancy an exploration of this interesting place. Anyone met the captain yet?.

Prose/Action Sample:Finding himself in a strange place or ship was nothing new to the Doctor. In his long life, he had lost count of how many times he had found himself someplace strange without explanation. What was disconcerting was that he had no idea how he got here—transmat? Abduction?

He looked at the polished walls of the ship with admiration. Whoever was behind this place was technologically sophisticated.

“Right then. Let’s see what this place is about.”

He reached in his coat for his sonic screwdriver, activating the blue light at the end, scanning for power readings. Once the Doctor finished his scan, he frowned and tucked the device back into his coat. The results were inconclusive. He looked around, again, wondering if by some chance the TARDIS was nearby. There didn’t seem to be anyone around. Judging from the upkeep of the place, someone had to be around.
“Perhaps we should find who’s in charge of this place,” he said to no one in particular.

The Doctor looked down either way of the corridor, and chose the direction in front of him, simply because he was facing that way. He headed off, striding purposefully to find anyone who could be able to tell him where he was and what was going on. At the same time, he could get a better idea of what kind of ship he was in. That was always the fun part about finding oneself in a new place—exploring it and finding something new.

With everything that had been going on in the city, Ten had decided it would be best if he and Rose stayed in for the weekend. Of course, since he didn't look at the date, he didn't realize it was Valentine's Day. All he was up to was busying himself with a book he'd checked out of the library.

It had been a while since he could probably recall having ever slept so well. The Doctor was not even aware the morning was beginning to head into its latter stages. He was still blissfully asleep. On some level, he was aware of Rose being next to him, also asleep. She had already gone to bed when he came in and carefully climbed in next to her, only removing his jacket and tie. Before too long, he was asleep and had stayed that way.

The forest room seemed to be seeing quite a bit of activity in the TARDIS. It had been a while ago one of the Doctor's earlier selves and his fiancee had used the privacy of the forest room to their advantage. Now it seemed that Ten and Rose were about to use it to their advantage as well. Their little chase had ended there, and before too long their lips were not leaving each other's

The Doctor gently pulled Rose down to the ground, on a soft patch behind a bush. He held her gently, enjoying the taste of her tongue on his. Why had he not done this sooner?
reallygreathair: (At the mess you've made)
There was an odd sensation inside the flat. It had quite a bit to do with one of its occupants. The Doctor sat down on the sofa, dressed in a dressing gown and pinstripe pajama pants. He grabbed a nearby newspaper and looked curiously at an unlit pipe in his hands. The Doctor frowned, wondering about why is isn't lit yet.

Well, there was one way to fix that--not to mention his bare feet.
